Future Feminist Archive and DAAO in Wollongong — April 14, 2015

FUTURE FEMINIST ARCHIVE WOLLONGONG SYMPOSIUM & HOW TO DAAO WORKSHOP
Sunday 10 May, 1-4pm, Wollongong Art Gallery
Future Feminist Archive Wollongong Symposium, 1-2pm

With Jo Holder (FFA co-convenor), artists Alison Alder and Mini Graff, archivist Susan Jones (Wollongong University) and Gillian Fuller (UNSW) & Eric Riddler (AGNSW archives).

For the 40th Anniversary of International Women’s Year, Future Feminist Archive brings together artists, archivists, filmmakers, curators and art historians to discuss ways to recover lost Feminist archives and to imagine the new.

Future Feminist Archive and the DAAO are undertaking a series of regional case studies and symposia beginning with Wollongong. A Future Feminist Archive report back will contribute to a final symposium in the first week of November.

Help investigate the many forms that a Future Feminist Archive might take – real and virtual, activist action!

How to DAAO Workshop, 2-4pm
With Dr Gillian Fuller, NIEA, Art & Design, UNSW.

In many ways online life duplicates everyday material life. Women are underrepresented in collections, archives and even on Wikipedia only 14% of content is about Women and only 9% of editors are female. If we want to be visible we need to be online.

This is a call to arms to help redress this imbalance.

DAAO is one of the biggest data research projects in Australian visual culture, but do you know how to use it, what it can do and how to make your research visible through it?

In less than one hour you can work the DAAO for yourself or your research or institution.

Your research will contribute to Australia’s leading research and collection institutions. The DAAO dataset of records for Australian artists, designers and curators, exhibitions, works and collections grows daily. This collaborative e-Research tool and database is built upon the foundations of Joan Kerr’s Dictionary of Australian Artists and Heritage: The National Women’s Art Book.

Places are limited to 20. Bring your research data / CV and laptop (if you have it)
